As the Nazi war machine rolled across
Europe in 1940, its leaders were involved in
a clandestine enterprise of equal savagery:
the looting of the world's greatest art from occupied
Paris. Against this backdrop, the exigencies of love
and war set two strangers on a collision course --
Korpsman Christoph Richter, a young German art
historian unwillingly conscripted into Goering's art-
theft squad, and Jacques Agazarian, a French Jew compelled to abandon his family and join the
resistance. For a while, each manages to balance
his sworn allegiance against his personal passions
and convictions. But events spiral out of control,
and Christoph and Jacques are drawn together into
a deadly vortex where the line between nobilty and
treachery becomes hopelessly blurred.
